Why GSLV is more special

Visited HAL Aerospace museum with a School from Coorg yesterday.
If you want to understand the Indian Aviation program, this is the place.
Pictures of early days of HAL, Models of MIG,SUKHOI and LCA, Engines of the flyers, etc Well putup.
My second visit.

There is one picture in the first floor of the museum. It is a tree which represents
Indian Space Program from the days of Aryabhata to year 2004.

After Aryabhata, we all should be proud of, is GSLV program.
Aryabhata was an Indian satelite but put into orbit by a *Russian* Vehicle.
GSLV is a launch vehicle, which can carry satelites.
Even before GSLV India had put several satelites into orbit using Indian rockets. But they were low altitude orbits. Say 300 to 600 kms.
Putting a satelite in geo stationary orbits is technically more challenging. Because, the orbit exists at 36000 kms, which is 70 times much farther.
Higher the altitude, more the thrust required. So is the complexity of the launch vehicle. That’s why GSLV is more special.
