    Rare Mughal

Take a closer look. Can you identify the person in the picture ?!

I never thought that there would be a photograph available of the last Mughal emperor.

Yes, it’s Bahadur Shah Zafar !

This picture is taken just after his show trial in Delhi and before his departure for exile in Rangoon in 1858. This is possibly the only photograph of a Mughal emperor ever taken.

    Women in High Heels!!

Are they confident … or do they have a superiority complex?!!!!!
    Pretty complex I think ..

Am actually amazed by the way, the ladies strut in those pencil heels! Its reeeeealy scary. I did try it once … dint want to do it again. But at the same time .. its haunting! Coz I feel inferior that I cannot strut in them. I’m happy analyzing the ladies in them, anyways.

An acquaintance of mine .. confirms that she conforms to all the rules of high heels .. actually she is highly(no pun intended) comfortable in (6 inch) high-heels! Believe it or not .. she has tripped a couple of times .. when she was wearing flats! Matter of practice you may say.. but sorry I dont think so! Ladies in New york, come in different shapes n sizes ;) but they do wear very similar footwear like this.

Why do (sane) people wear them? I have seen 2 classes of women here: One kind who wear sneakers on the road and carry heels in their bags, and the other kind who wear 4 inch-high heels on the road and 6 inch-high heels in office! And the best part is , I hardly see them trip! Not that I wait for it, but I am more concerned than they are. They are so confident when they walk ..or atleast they appear to be.

Google high heels and you’ll know that ladies primarily wear them for the sheer fact that it makes their legs look longer n slender! It also does enhance the style of whatever ur wearing.. well I do think thats true to an extent. Also I recently happened to watch an interesting episode of a very popular soap on TV in which one of the lady applicants for the position of a doctor, was declined the job as she was wearing high heels , which was supposedly construed to be a show of inferiority complex! Well I would like that to be true ! :)

    MavinKayi Chitranna

I pulled out a recipe from one of my old collection this evening for the dinner. MavinKayi Chitranna ( Masla Rice out of raw mango…?! )

Had the rice been little fluffy, it would’ve been more delicious. Print the recipe to try out.
    Translators. Any one around ?!

If humans never had the capability to speak, know what would have happened ?

    - I think Video Telephony would have been the first ever invention and voice telephony would have never seen the light of the day.

    - this would have been a place with only video-ipods !

    - Each one of us would be either great painters/ greatly expressive actors

    - And we would be a species without ears ??!!

    Dear All,
Thank You all for the wonderful and thoughtful gift and also for the lunch+dessert. I will badly miss our lunch group. 6 people from different age groups (ATM will come up with the generation gap funda now J), from different backgrounds, with different choices, different tastes and interests and with different outlook towards life – Its amazing how we jelled together and tuned to the same frequency when it was lunch time. We just rocked as a group!!
It has been unbelievable fun being part of this group. Not just fun alone, we’ve had quite a lot of “intellectual and philosophical” discussions too. God vs Science, ATM’s transit visa, Driving stories, Shaadi.com, Patents….I can go on and on. I’ll carry on with these unforgettable memories.
Do keep in touch. Please let me know your personal mail ids.
I check mails at johndipu@yahoo.co.in and use john.dipu@gmail.com solely for gtalk purpose.

    Will miss you all
    ByeBye

    Catching the Big Fish

This week has been the week of Audio Books.

    I am ‘reading’ these…
Seven habits of Highly Effective people – Stephen Covey
Catching the Big Fish – by David Lynch, (Culty Film-maker)

The download of “Brief History of Time” is underway.

The one which I am most eagerly waiting to hear is the Scott Adams’ Joy of Work. I must have read the paper book zillion times for the wit and the humour.

Would I enjoy it the way I have enjoyed the paper edition…??! mm curious.

Audio books are especially good if the narrator is the author himself.
He will go with the same pace and spirit with which the book was put together. But you will not enjoy the randomness of flipping and skipping of the boring lines. This is more for a sequential reader.

Nevertheless, it’s a nice change from text to sound. If you have a portable mp3 player, they are great time killers on Bangalore roads.

You also can make an audio book. How ?

Choose your favourite book. Pick your favorite pages. Use a recorder. Burn it on a media.
Gift this out to your loved ones.

    Better visual for boring data

I had to send out an email with a list of teams for our company team outing. This was the data.

I thought about it a bit. Sending a spread sheet attachment with names in six different columns would have been the most obvious way of representation.

See how much difference can it make when you arrange a simple long list of data into a much better visual with black and white boxes.

The represenation with chess boxes indicates that it’s a grouping done for a game and the intentions are light. So don’t read it as a serious official memo.

By not sending it as an attachment is not asking for few more clicks and launching of the application. People, generally show least amount of interest when the mail is a broadcast.

    Cartoonist’s workbook

In my month long stay at US, I had not spent anything on books and I was curious to visit a bookstore and experience how different they are from one in Bangalore. But that didn’t happen until the day before I was leaving to India.

I visited Barnes & Noble Bookstore at Nashua in NewHampshire, MA. I should say, in terms of collection and presentation they were no different from crossword book store at Residency Road in Bangalore.

Like it normally happens, none of my book store visits goes without a buy. But they were dollar buys, so I mostly looked for the shelf containing bargain prices.

Cartoonist’s workbook was the most swiftest pick. I was looking for such a book for long. The moment I saw this, I knew that this one is waiting for me. Thick pages, big fonts, easy reading text and full of illustrations. Any author can seduce me easily with this formula.

My favorite has always been descriptions with hand drawn pictures. Their ‘communicability’ is much more effective than one with either plain text or one with real photographs.

    Cartoonist’s Workbook by Robin Hall

“The process of drawing cartoons can be likened to that of writing the alphabet. You don’t need a special talent, just some useful guidelines and a LOT of practice”

    wifi at home with netgear

With sify broadband connection at home, I wanted to set up wifi at home with netgear wgr614v7 wireless router.

It took me almost 10 hours in continuous sitting to get it working. It was not until late 3 in the morning that I found out that you need sify’s support to have wifi.

If you are one of them with sify’s broadband connection and netgear router, here’s how you can go about it. The wizard of the netgear is not kind enough to make your job easier. So I took to the pencil and drawn some sketches. Hope it helps to save few hours.

Leave a message for any query and I will help troubleshoot your set up problems. ( Click on the picture for enlarged image)

Is your router DHCP enabled ?! If you get to Configure screens of wifi router(which is generally accessible at http://192.168.1.1), If am not wrong, in Lan settings page, you can configure this. Send me an email.
