    IE to FF

I know am late. But I have arrived. With Firefox. I installed it on my machine this morning and migrated all my bookmarks and cookies to the new browser.

Having used IE7 for few months now, I felt there’s no new learning required to use FF. Their look-n-feel are somewhat similar. Since Firefox has a much larger contributing community, I think it has lot many user friendly customizations.

Which feature of Firefox you think scores over IE7 ?

Both are extremely good , IE7 design flows well with VISTA . If you are using XPSP2 IE7 looks out of sync.Try Safari the fastest browser as touted by apple , by Apple’s standards it sucks BIG TIME .

Apple’s safari. Yea my colleague uses it in office. Let me stay in FF for sometime.

IE7’s fonts are a treat to the eyes. The readig pleasure is great. That’s what I miss in FF.

    Information + Graphics

A small explosion happened this morning. I chanced upon this word.
    Info Graphics.
That’s the word I must have been looking for many days to describe “presenting information in pictures”

What a perfect example here to tell you what I mean by that. Coffee Drinker’s cheat sheet. I will not utter a single word now.

    Bourne Ultimatum

I have not seen the two previous two. This one is a great entertainer. The Bourne Ultimatum. Loaded with all the punch and the stunts. Start to finish. Take all my stars. Don’t miss this one watching on the big screen.

And look for these wittiest lines of the movie.

Vosen: [in car, on cell phone] Perhaps we can arrange a meet.
Jason Bourne: Where are you now?
Vosen: I’m sitting in my office.
    Jason Bourne: I doubt that.
Vosen: Why would you doubt that?
Jason Bourne: If you were in your office right now we’d be having this conversation face-to-face.

    Lift Please

I pick them on my way. Some times it’s a construction worker, a tailor, school going kid, security guard and so on. The road which I take to my office has no rickshaw or city buses. So there will be one or the other waiting for a lift.

    What do I gain ?
    - Squirrel Social service :)
    - A little joy that you saved them some time and few bucks.
    - Note of ‘thank you’
    - You can tell others that you did, like here.

PS: This pic took me a minimum of 10 drafts to get the posture of the bikers.

    Ie = Ic + Ib

Look at this pic. It’s a strip from a very old book titled Banish the mysteries of Electronics. Of the several illustrations it has, I liked this one. IE = IC + IB , transistor currents relation.

I never understood this relation or atleast never reasoned it, when I was doing my graduation. To discover something which is so simple…years later is awesome. ( Click on the picture for better clarity )

You will appreciate this more, if you know that these currents a have non-linear relationship. Small base current controls large amounts of Collector current. But only till a certain point. Once the base current crosses a certain threshold, it has no effect on the flow of the collector current and we say that transistor is saturated.

Bringing out such a non-linear relationship in a picture is tricky.
    Great piece of imagination.

Thanks to Levin who picked up this book for me, from Commercial Street’s second hand book shop.

    Left is right

7 years in IT. Innumerable number of mouse clicks in a day. Countless. Single Click, Double clicks, Scroll, drag and moving around on the pad. Thumb and the first finger of my right hand are tired. It started showing up a week back. Unbearable pain with repetitive injury inside.Paapa. I needed to give them a break and show some vacation time. So I did. How ?

Left hand. It never occured to me that I have a left hand I can use. I swapped the button functions. And am training my left hand to do the job of right hand.

Shift in roles takes some time. Initially, when I was moving the mouse with the left hand fingers, my idle right hand fingers imitate and try to do the same in air. I can see them.

With a week behind me now….little practice and patience, lefties learn.
Two hands. What a wonderful built-in redundancy.

Hey try this. I connected two mouses ( mice?) to my PC. You can, because there are multiple USBs and discover that only one works any time. Try Try.

    • ATM 2:02 PM on August 20, 2007 Permalink

Left hand writing ?! When writing itself is so rare these days, it’ll be decades before I get bored with my right. Moreover, why should I infringe on nikhila styles :)

    • Sachin 6:15 AM on August 21, 2007 Permalink

how bout writing simultaneously with both your hands? :P

    Glorious two years

Today marks two years in my current company. This is the second longest duration of my stay after lucent.

These two years have been special than any other periods for few reasons.
    - From being 51st to join and seeing the team grow to 125 is new to me.
    - Setup, Install, configure and manage the telecom equipment. You don’t get to do that often.
    - Some peek into what goes on inside the board room to steer the company’s wheel
    - Trip to Boston. First ever travel overseas.
    - pre-IPO to making into NASDAQ
    - More opportunities to speak and dabble with new ideas.
    - Decent bank balance!
    - Laptop addiction. Finally had to buy one.
